Eye Infections
An eye infection is usually caused by bacteria or a virus. There are many types of eye infections, but the most common is bacterial conjunctivitis. Eye infections are usually spread through contact of eye drainage. There are many different causes of eye infection and different treatments.
Eye infection can be caused by many factors. The source of the infection may come from the eye or from the sinuses. Eye infection may be caused by many things like eye trauma, surgery, the use of contact lenses, immune deficiencies, and other factors that result in the growth of bacteria or viruses.
The symptoms of eye infections vary, but many types of infections share common symptoms. With bacterial conjunctivitis your eyes will become red and irritated. They may water more than usual and will burn or become swollen. Many other types of eye infections cause these symptoms also.
Eye infections can affect anyone. If you have an eye infection your doctor can diagnose the problem, then prescribe medication. Infections such as conjunctivitis are highly contagious and may require you to stay home from work or school to prevent the spread of the infection.
You can do a lot to prevent the spread of your infection. If you have an infection, you should avoid touching your eyes. Don’t wear eye makeup or wear contacts while you have the infection. This could cause the infection to continue longer. Once the infection is gone you shouldn’t use the makeup you used before and you should throw away your old contact case and use a new set of contacts. Also, do not share eye medication with other people.
There are many different types of eye infection, so if you have it you may want to see your doctor. It may seem like a simple infection, but may require more than basic treatment. Remember to try to avoid the spread of eye infections and to wash your hands when you touch your eyes.
