Many people around the world have allergies. One of the most common types of allergies is seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, which is an eye allergy. Eye allergies are an overreaction to a harmless substance. People with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis are normally allergic to pollen. Other eye allergies may include being allergic to dust, mold, or animal hair.

These substances seem harmless, but people with eye allergies suffer from itchy eyes, redness, swelling, and tearing up when they come into contact with these substances. Nasal congestion may go along with these symptoms.

Eye allergies can affect anyone. Those with seasonal allergies will be more likely to suffer symptoms in the spring and summer, due to pollen. People that have an allergy to animal fur will suffer these symptoms at anytime when they come in contact with an animal.

Eye allergies are not severe. The best way to treat an eye allergy is to avoid what causes it. Your symptoms will improve when you can identify the cause and avoid it. If you are allergic to dust mites, you may want to frequently change your sheets and pillowcases to reduce the number of dust mites you come in contact with. If you have seasonal allergies you may want to spend less time outside during the months that cause eye irritation. If you are allergic to animals you might try not having any pets in the house because their fur can live in your carpets and clothing.

There are many different types of medications to relieve these symptoms, and most of them are over the counter drugs. Eye allergies are not severe, just annoying. You can avoid the symptoms of eye allergies by avoiding the cause. If you cannot avoid the cause of your symptoms you may want to talk to a physician and they can prescribe you drugs to treat your symptoms.
