Eye acupuncture sounds a lot scarier than it really is. It does involve needles and your eyeballs, but it’s probably not what you’re expecting. Still, just the words “eye acupuncture” may be enough to scare most people out of trying it–and that’s a shame, considering how amazing the documented results of this treatment can be. Patients with all manner of eye problems and disorders have been treated with eye acupuncture. Everything from eye strain-related migraines to detached retinas that conventional doctors wanted to remove have been cured or vastly improved by this ancient Chinese medical practice.

Most people know enough about acupuncture to recognize that it involves sticking needles into the patient’s skin, but nowhere near as many know why. According to the Chinese beliefs behind the practice of acupuncture, the body’s “life force” is a form of energy in the body that is vital to the health of the body and organs. This energy, known as Qi (pronounced “chee”), can become unbalanced or blocked up entirely, and that is the supposed cause for diseases and disorders that develop within the body. The Qi runs through the body along little pathways called meridians, similar to how blood flows through veins. The meridians are invisible, and the Qi, since it is energy, cannot be seen in the body.

By inserting very thin needles into places where the meridians cross paths, acupuncture is said to help balance out the Qi’s flow again, thus allowing the body to recover from the disorders the imbalanced Qi had caused before. Eye acupuncture does not involve inserting needles into the eyes, as many people may assume upon hearing the name. Rather, small needles are inserted into the muscles of the face around the eyes, clearing up the Qi blockages that may be causing discomfort, disease and other problems with your vision.

Eye acupuncture has been known to cure eye problems that numerous major surgeries could not. If you’ve been told you may lose your vision or even your eye, what can it hurt to give eye acupuncture a try? You may be amazed and delighted by the results.
