Dry Eyes
Most of us have experienced dry eyes. Some people, however, continue to have dry eyes. Having dry eyes is caused by aging, medications, air pollution, or other factors. People that wear contacts or work staring at a computer screen all day will also be more likely to continuously have dry eyes.
When your eyes are dry they become irritated and red. They may become itchy or begin to burn and feels as if there is something in your eye. People that have dry eyes say that their eyes become tired very easily, making it difficult to watch television or to read.
The main cause of dry eyes is not blinking enough. As silly as it sounds, people with constant dry eyes can fix their dry eyes by blinking more often. This is why people that work on a computer tend to have dry eyes because they focus on the screen and don’t blink as often. Outdoor pollutants cause dry eyes along with centrally heated or air-conditioned rooms and when riding an airplane.
The best ways to prevent dry eyes is to blink more often and drink water. Take a few minute break from your computer every now and then just to look around and move your eyes. Drinking water will keep you hydrated, which will help with your eyes. You can also treat dry eyes with eye drops or artificial tears, which mimic natural tears and help keep your eyes hydrated.
You can avoid dry eyes by not smoking. Smoking is not good for your eyes, as it can cause more damage than the simple dry eye. You can also avoid these symptoms by monitoring the indoor humidity. You might consider running a humidifier if the air is dry.
Many people suffer from dry eyes and it is not a serious condition. The most it does is cause eye irritation. With proper care, it can be treated and avoided very simply.
